Gum recession impacts people of all ages. It’s a condition with a variety of causes, from hard tooth brushing or grinding at night to bacterial or periodontal disease. In 2014, Dr. Pihur became one of the first dentists to be trained and certified in the new Chao Pinhole Surgery Technique, a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for correcting gum recession. During this groundbreaking new procedure, specially designed instruments loosen the patient’s gum tissue through a tiny hole made by a needle. The tissue can then easily slide over the exposed tooth where the gums have receded. There’s no cutting or stitching, which greatly reduces post-surgical issues, like swelling, bleeding, or discoloration. Reducing the impact of treatment creates an almost instant cosmetic improvement, and allows for a quick and easy recovery.
